WHY STAINLESS STEEL
When
William van Alen designed the Chrysler Building in Lexington
Avenue 42nd Street, New York, he specified grade 18/8 stainless
steel, a new material for the distinctive roof.
That was in 1930. Today there is still
absolutely no sign of corrosion or any other structural deficiency.
Take the simple wall tie. Stainless steel
wall ties became the accepted standard after the discovery
that in a few short years other materials completely corroded
away. When you consider that both lintels and wall ties live
within the same hostile environment surely all lintels should
be made of stainless steel.
Harvey Lintels are manufactured in various
materials, as a guide to longevity, galvanised are rated by
the Housing Association Property Manual as satisfying the
’25 years durability rating’ dependent on Galv thickness and
additional protective coatings. Stainless steel lintels are
expected to last almost indefinitely. This is confirmed by
the performance of The Chrysler Building roof.
That means whatever your design, it will
bear the hallmark of your skill well into the future because
of the superior properties of stainless steel.
So remember, when it comes to specifying
- the life expectancy of your work is in your hands. Harvey’s
Lintels are fabricated from the very best when it comes to
technical specifications and materials. All the materials
used comply with British Standards and are of the highest
quality to ensure protection against corrosion and ensuring
a long life.
Even additional protective coatings are
available including high build, self etch primer and 100 microns
of black bituminous paint on any specification.
